It's a tradition that after an actor's last scene the company will pause to say, "Congratulations and adieu." Director Raymond De Felitta made sure this moment of Ezra Miller's final set moment was captured as a motion picture. My camera was the one most handy so it was rather left to me to put it together. Here it is, with Raymond's fine piano artistry behind.

Ezra's a total shining star - in every way - and we all wish him the best, always.

At the other end of the threat spectrum was Joshua Kinberg, a graduate student at Parsons School of Design and the subject of four pages of intelligence reports, including two pictures. For his master’s thesis project, Mr. Kinberg devised a “wireless bicycle” equipped with cellphone, laptop and spray tubes that could squirt messages received over the Internet onto the sidewalk or street.
The messages were printed in water-soluble chalk, a tactic meant to avoid a criminal mischief charge for using paint, an intelligence report noted. Mr. Kinberg’s bicycle was “capable of transferring activist-based messages on streets and sidewalks,” according to a report on July 22, 2004.

Another prominent Web blogger, Ze Frank, is also casting about for new opportunities. He, too, is using the popularity of his Web video show to break into other media. He and National Geographic pitched PBS on a documentary series.

Both Congdon and Frank have become 'brands.' Rather than trying to sell advertising on their Web video efforts, while no one (or everyone) was looking, they were selling themselves.

Rocketboom is the first & most successful of videoblogs to rise from the ranks of the early adopters. His first partner - Amanda Congdon - was the first to cross over into the mainstream when she was hired to vlog for ABC News. And while Rocketboom was not the first videoblog to sport paid advertising (HERE's the first ever vlog ad), it was certainly the first to go BIG with advertising, netting $40K from an Ebay auction.

We thought the press corps would be interested.

Videobloggers' Calendar :: Keeping a Community Together

Many articles on videoblogging tend to miss the aspect of the cohesive strength of our 2500-member community.

This Google calendar - created by Susan Kirkpatrick and managed by contributors Jay Dedman, Roxanne Darling, Devlon Duthie, Paul Knight, and Jan McLaughlin - is only one tool that helps us keep it together.

We tried any number of calendars, including our email list's native calendar through Yahoo!, but to no avail. Google's seems to be sticking.

Why? Because it's open. Folks to manage it are easily added, and anyone may subscribe.

The Columbia Migration Project is only the most recent Have Money Will Vlog endeavor.

In The Columbia Migration Project, anthropologist Maria Gomez will for four months explore the Columbian Diaspora as now ten percent of Columbians have headed to the United States with presumably many more emigres to come.

Is this migration brain drain, labor drain, or both? It's our hope that Maria will find answers that will open doors of understanding and promote the hearty embrace of a new emigrant population as they find homes here.

This is the most recent of three vlog projects that a group of active, vested members of the Videoblogging community through Have Money Will Vlog (HMWV) have agreed to support with their dollars and social currency.

Jay Dedman in particular fell in love with Maria's concept, and managed to elicit a concensus from the HMWV advocates that Maria's vlog dream was a thing worthy of both its fiscal & social capital.

Can't help but think of HMWV as an economic model for sustainable videoblogging. More than that, it's created a new kind of production company. And as a Hollywood / Television insider (sort of), I can say it is a good thing to have new models. It's time.

Jeff Pulver starts a conversation about vlog-as-entertainment / television with this post that lists research results for "TV Shows Only Available on the Internet."

Lots of the shows Pulver lists turn the idea of television at least on its side if not its head.

More of that upsidedownness, if you please.

PRESS RELEASE: Michael Sullivan Launches Videobloggers.org

Michael Sullivan, developer of vlogdir.com, has recently launched Videobloggers.org, a Vlogosphere Content Aggregator and Free Hosting Service Provider for Open Content Creators.

The media hosting is made available via a partnership with ibiblio.org which is one of the largest digital archives online.

The publishing engine is being beta tested but is currently open to the public to upload creative commons / public domain content and have several generated flavors of XML feeds and playlists. The front-end site aims to provide a vast amount of videoblogging news and media from around the vlogosphere.

Eventually, Videobloggers.org will sponsor collaborative video projects.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – August 10, 2005 – Veoh Networks, Inc., the first
Internet Television Peercasting Network, today announced it has
completed a Series A round of financing led by Shelter Capital
Partners. The introduction of Veoh Networks (www.veoh.com) creates a
new category of television networks that take advantage of exiting
broadband infrastructure to deliver TV-grade, full-screen video
programming directly from producers to consumers.

Veoh Networks was founded in 2004 by Dmitry Shapiro, a technologist

New York Television Festival: Independent Television

The New York Television Festival will launch in Manhattan from
September 28th through October 3rd in 2005. As the first creative
festival for the medium, the NYTVF will pioneer the movement of
"Independent Television" and construct a new path for program
development. Writers, directors and producers will be selected from a
national and international grassroots search and given the
unprecedented opportunity to showcase their originally produced Pilot
Programs directly to network and cable executives in a festival
competition.

Held in various locations in Manhattan's historic Greenwich Village,
the NYTVF will celebrate television as an institution and an art form,
from its distinguished history with New York City to its role in
contemporary society. In addition to the competitions, the festival
will honor television's rich heritage with classic screenings, panel
discussions, and interactive events paying tribute to the industry and
its impact on American culture.
